All the times I've said I am ready to post on a regular basis I've fallen by the wayside almost immediately ... not on purpose but I just get wrapped up in something else and I forget about blogging. If I put a note on my calendar to blog, I just say "Ya, ya, ya ... tomorrow" and we all knows what happens then - I forget. The last post I made was in September 2018 and I guarantee that lots of stuff has happened since then.
I'm again going to try to remember to post and not about everything in the same post ... one or two happenings per post - do you think I can do that on a steady basis, maybe once a week to start? I hope so, so don't write me off yet ... LOL ...
I hope my followers are still around and that includes family ... and maybe if I can post interesting enough things I can get a few more ... I'm hoping for that ... so I'll see you next week ... I hope!

Easter Sunday
Have a Happy Easter Bunny Day ... and more seriously, have a Wonderful Easter Sunday. I wish I could be in Texas with my family to celebrate this High Holy Day. I miss them, but they are all in my heart.
I know it's been a long time since I posted, but since my last post in January, nothing in the world has changed ... it is still burning, the Christians and Jews are still being persecuted, the terrorists are still killing anyone who is not Muslim ... I have strong opinions on the above mentioned items, but for today I will Pray for Everyone! It can't hurt ...
It's snowing outside and the temp sits at 32 ... nothing is sticking of course, but it is COLD. Thankfully there is only a slight, slight breeze, but it is still cold air moving around. Brrrrr!!
I'm starting my list of items that will be needed for our Black Powder Shoot camping trip. It is hard to foresee what kind of clothes to bring this time of year. It could be sunny, but still cold or it could be raining or snowing ... LOL Food will mostly be the basics ... milk, bread, etc., etc. and WARM food, he, he, he.
I sure hope it warms up by then ... we will be leaving home on April 29 and back home on May 3. This might be our last year to have the Shoot where it's been for many, many years. The company that bought the property is extremely worried about fires and people drinking where there are guns. There has never been an issue before with the drinking and guns ... we really are adults even if we dress up in period costume ... I sure hope the Mt. Mazama Mountain Men can find a place that is just as nice or better. There will be observers from the company to see if we are good boys and girls ...
I'm also doing some knitting, beading and crocheting for a Craft Faire in October. I know it sounds like a long way off, but when every thing is hand made it takes time. My friend and I have knit/crochet 2 Yoda Baby Buntings ... beaded little Angel earrings and wrist Rosaries. I have patterns for Ornament covers; I'd like to have between 6-10 done in different designs and colors. My friend will make soap and I have wash/dish clothes that we will sell together. I am very excited, and should be busier than I am right now. There is time, but it has a habit of moving very, very quickly. I WILL GET IT ALL DONE!!!! LOL

I seem to be behinder than usual ... LOL
Things move so slowly here in my life that the same thing day after day is just not worth writing about ... pretty sad huh? Today I'm playing catch up for the last exciting (LOL) month ...
Thanksgiving was very nice; good friend and good food is always a "fuzzy warm" experience. I ate too much as always, but not "too much" to make me sick. The weather was decent, as in not too cold, but no one knew that a week later it would be 3 degrees overnight.
It is currently 11:16 am and the temp has risen to 10 ... today's high is moving up on 30. I want it to get to at least 28 and SNOW. Lots of snow. The sky is bright blue with not a cloud in sight ... but even though the sun is shining brightly there is no warmth in it.
I need to get back to getting presents ready for family and friends, but as always, money is tight - VERY tight.
Oh, I do have some news ... I've spoken with the Lady at the USDA about the grant to cover expenses for my well issue. The money has been set aside, but will not be issued until the job is done; and it will be issued to the contractor. The ground is pretty frozen so the job won't happen until April at the earliest ... bummer. I guess I'm one of the honest folks out there - I would verify the amount for the ditch digging only and set that aside for John and then put my reserves back in my bank to be used for gifts. I don't think of taking the money and running ... I need my system to be to code. Not complying could mean a large fine and I'm not into paying anything that would go to the government, no matter what the amount is - my money is my money .. OK, enough of this!
I lost my cute little Lucy chicken before Thanksgiving to a raccoon. I've stuffed every entry I can see, but raccoons are smart, but I've also taken to locking the girls up in the coop at night. They have absolutely no problem with that ... besides it's very cold at night and I have a heat lamp in there that keeps them a lot warmer than having a cold breeze flying through the door.
I've worked on my Hugel garden - yes, last minute me! - but am at a stop because the ground is frozen. It really is done, but I just wanted to get the last of the dirt on top of the pile ... oh well, Spring will come soon enough and the whole pile needs to 'stew' so it's ready for planting after last frost.
I'm hunkering down today, and probably for the rest of winter. I'm going to get off the internet and sink into a pile of yarn and do some knitting - the couch is a lot closer to the wood stove than the computer is so that will be a real cozy experience ... Love the wood stove!
I will definite try to post more often, but I don't guarantee anything ... LOL

Oh my goodness ...
it's been way too long since I posted.
It has been HOT here and very uncomfortable. Hot here is in the 90's, anywhere from 90 to 99 and over is HOT, HOT, HOT!
I've done absolutely nothing on the hugel garden - even in the early mornings it's too warm to start shoveling dirt. I just look at it and wonder when I'm going to get to finish it ...
We, our group, went camping last weekend and had a blast!! Ron and I went up on Wed morning, set up and relaxed in the shade ... it was hot. Dale brought up the 5th wheel later on and Candy and the youngest grandchild, Ben, stayed. Dale had to work on Thursday so he had to wait a day. It was his birthday weekend, so we handed out presents. It was still hot.
Fishing was terrible the whole weekend, so we only had one meal with fish and really nothing to bring home to freeze and enjoy during the winter ... LOL ... if they last that long!
Dale's parents came up on Saturday and spent the afternoon and evening with us. Mom brought Ice Cream and Cake - we were styling it ... The one grand kid and the great grand kid talked Dad into doing some fishing. He's in his 70's, not in the best health, but hasn't fished in at least 20 years. He sat on the dock in a good chair and caught a 13" Catfish! The biggest all weekend! We b-b-q'd steaks with pasta salad and cake & ice cream. We eat better when we are camping ... LOL. Mom & Dad stayed until just before they closed the gate at the campground - 9 pm. It was a wonderful day, full of fun and laughter. Dale cleaned the cat and dropped it at his parents on Monday - a meal for the two of them.
I still haven't dumped the camper - it's too hot! Everything else is out of it ...
We are trying to figure out when the next camping trip will be ... we only have one more due to money before Deer Camp. That starts, I think, on Sept 28 and runs for 12 days. Ron and I will go up the Tuesday before so we can get the sites we want ... two together. It is getting earlier every year because people are discovering that the campground is open for hunting season. I go up for maybe a week, but the guys stay for most of it. If they get a deer early then the rest of the time is "party time".
Any way, back to the next trip - I'm not sure we want to go over Labor Day, but the 24th of Aug is out - a family thing ... LOL. The weekend before is too close, and the weekend after is Labor Day ... so I think we will go Labor Day no matter what ... time will tell.
I will try to not go so long before the next post - I was doing well for a while, twice a week, but then the weather got HOT and I did nothing ... I sure hope these temperatures drop down to the low 80's soon - that's normal for us!

Another day ...
There is a slight breeze and the temperature is just hitting 80. I went out about an hour ago to move some more dirt from the dirt pile to the hugel pile (garden) ... I'm about ready to go out again in a few minutes ... before the sun really hits the pile ... LOL. I can shovel dirt for about 30 minutes and then I need a good rest.
Susan and I planted potatoes a little over a month ago and the plants are about 6-8" tall now ... we haven't looked to see if there are any baby spuds yet, but I doubt it. Maybe in a few weeks?
On the 17th we are going on Dale's birthday camp out, just back up to Topsy, but it is sooo nice up there. Ron and I will leave about 10-11am to get our spots, but the rest of the gang, especially Dale, won't be there until Thursday late afternoon. So looking forward to it.
All of a sudden there are clouds out there ... so I really should go shovel some more dirt. If any of you get bored you can always come help ... LOL.
Had a nice 4th of July. Spent it with friend and little itty bitty fireworks ... had Bratts, baked beans, macaroni salad and there was cake and ice cream for desert ... um ... no room! I hope everyone had a great day and evening and stayed safe.

Busy as a bee ...
I've been busy (for me) and have gotten a bunch of things done - that's a nice feeling! Of course some of the things I did could have been done a year ago ... LOL.
Last week was my daughter's 45th birthday ... phew, that makes me feel old!! Nine days before that was my birthday, I'm now 6xxxx years old. Nope, not telling!!
On Friday, the 14th (+15th) , the Klamath County 2013 Stand Down took place at the Fairgrounds. The DAV had 2 days of military surplus give away to the local Veterans. I went with a friend, Ron, and he picked up some things he needed. He was really looking for boots, but anything from 8-10 was gone before we got to the table ... bummer. There were tables and tables of goods, from socks in large and small - no medium ... LOL. Shirts, jackets, backpacks, wool blankets, sleeping bags, etc. In another section there were tables of information for services that the Veterans could apply for and get them either for free or for a reduced price.
Ron and I were sooo tired from the waiting, sitting, standing and walking around that when we finally got to his car, we dropped into the seats like stones! It was definitely to bed early for me and I think Ron did the same thing ... we were up at 6 am, so I'm sure he dropped out early too.
Saturday I was absolutely worthless ... I hurt in places that I forgot I even had!! But on Sunday I got some stuff done here at the house. I stretched out the hoses to the various places they go and looked around for some connectors - no luck. I dumped (finally) the camper tanks - it doesn't take long, but I just hate doing it ... ugghhh! I put it back in it's resting place until the next trip - I'm ready to go any time again.
I had over a dozen canning jars that sat out over winter and all but 6 cracked and broke. I got my butt together and picked up all the broken ones so I could (finally) get them in the trash for pickup. These are the ones that have sat for over a year ...
I asked Dale to bring my mower back when he brought down his trashcan ... I mowed the side yard today and have had the sprinkler going for about 4 hours, moving it from place to place. The poor grass won't know what to do with WATER ... this is the first water, except a bit of rain, that has been put on the grass. Oops - bad me!
I'm going to town tomorrow to pick up some things from the market. I hate going to town; I always end up spending at least $100! It's just inevitable.
I'm going to go back to the couch and watch the evening news ... and maybe knit while I do.

Now that I'm older ...
I celebrated my birthday by going camping - it's an annual event. Both the birthday, LOL, and the camping trip. Our little group have certain events that always included a camping trip, and we love it. We can't afford a nice dinner out for all our birthdays, but we can afford camping! The sad part is that only 2 out of 5 have summer birthdays the rest are one in January, one February and the last one in November and those are not good for camping.
In order to get the two campsites we really like, two of us left on Wednesday am, but still didn't get our sites ... The campground is a small one and there are only 13 available sites. People are learning about our favorite place and it's getting tough to get our spots. We at least need 2 sites together as we camp as one big happy family.
I've had lots of birthday wishes on my FB page and I appreciate all the people that posted. I love my friends & family.
After getting home from camping the next day's activity always includes a trip to the market. As usual there is a prescription to fill, and also to replace some of the things taken to camp. We also found a potato pot for $5 and proceeded to plant them this morning. We also stopped at the local nursery and bought some tomato plants and a little pot with 2 Cantaloupe plants in it. Our planting season here in Southern Oregon is short, but we make do. The Hugel garden is still only half way done, so it won't be useful until the end of the season, so next year will be it for that garden!!
The temp outside in the carport is 78 right now at 1 pm. The temps are going to keep climbing until this weekend where it is suppose to reach the very upper 80's and lower 90's. This is about 10-15 degrees above normal for us ... it has definitely hit Summer Mode. I need my mower back from Dale so I can cut the 12" high weeds before I disappear in it when walking across the yard ... LOL
I got my Camper Renewal in the mail yesterday ... Ugghh! $114.75 ... it is for two years, but still, it's hard to come up with all at once when on a fixed income ... no more whining ... !
I'll leave you now with all the wisdom of my 66 years ... LOL

I'm still playing with my tablet ... LOL
I've been on and off the tablet looking around at the settings and 'stuff' that is available ... I can't believe how some things are so hard to find ... and that you have to go online to get a manual. It took a while to find the manual, but it has it all - it is bookmarked!!! I've found places for settings for various things - don't know how I did it, but I've changed a few settings and feel like I've solved some mysteries ... LOL
Went to town yesterday and LO and Behold there was that dreaded "Check Engine" light! That makes me nervous, a whole lot of nervous! As soon as I got home, I called my friend who can figure out most things wrong with cars ... he said to check fluids - which I will do when the temp gets above 45 degrees! - also said to try moving the key to Accessories and back to the place right before turning the engine on - do that 3 times and see if the light doesn't go out -- IT DID, IT DID, IT DID!!!!!!!! I know it tells you to literally check the engine, but sometimes I think it is also an Idiot light just like the need gas light ... I use to work on my own car, but that was before I got old (LOL!!!) and before these new fangled computer run cars. Now mine is a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and doesn't have the huge computer, but it's still a pain to figure out what's wrong ... thank goodness for knowledgeable friends!
I will continue to play on the tablet ... not so much the games - why tons of games? - but in making things easier for me to access the things I use all the time. Does anyone know if I can charge the battery on the tablet in my camper? It runs on a 12v battery - I'll have to find out ...
It's Friday and a bunch of us gather in the garage of one of us ... He smokes chicken or makes up a batch of something to eat ... tonight is Ham Hocks & Beans! We take turns fixing our "Eats" and have a fun evening ... we also imbibe in our favorite beverages ... LOL. We stay for 2-3 hours and talk, and talk, and talk some more. Some of the others play darts, but my d*mn arthritis won't let me play unless I want to take two days to recover ... no thanks!
Easter is on Sunday and I need to finish making a little bunny for my Niece. She's 16, but loves little gifts that are "cute". I indulge her! Love that kid!!! Happy Easter to all. (((Hugs)))

As soon as I got home, I called my friend who can figure out most things wrong with cars ... he said to check fluids - which I will do when the temp gets above 45 degrees! - also said to try moving the key to Accessories and back to the place right before turning the engine on - do that 3 times and see if the light doesn't go out -- IT DID, IT DID, IT DID!!!!!!!! I know it tells you to literally check the engine, but sometimes I think it is also an Idiot light just like the need gas light ... I use to work on my own car, but that was before I got old (LOL!!!) and before these new fangled computer run cars. Now mine is a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and doesn't have the huge computer, but it's still a pain to figure out what's wrong ... thank goodness for knowledgeable friends!
I will continue to play on the tablet ... not so much the games - why tons of games? - but in making things easier for me to access the things I use all the time. Does anyone know if I can charge the battery on the tablet in my camper? It runs on a 12v battery - I'll have to find out ...
It's Friday and a bunch of us gather in the garage of one of us ... He smokes chicken or makes up a batch of something to eat ... tonight is Ham Hocks & Beans! We take turns fixing our "Eats" and have a fun evening ... we also imbibe in our favorite beverages ... LOL. We stay for 2-3 hours and talk, and talk, and talk some more. Some of the others play darts, but my d*mn arthritis won't let me play unless I want to take two days to recover ... no thanks!
Easter is on Sunday and I need to finish making a little bunny for my Niece. She's 16, but loves little gifts that are "cute". I indulge her! Love that kid!!! Happy Easter to all. (((Hugs)))

Why can't I keep my posting consistant?
I was on such a nice roll in posting and then fell off the wagon, so to speak ... what is it about posting that comes and goes ... I need to set up a schedule of when to post (approximately) and keep to it! Maybe a reminder on the computer to let me know it's time. I know that sometimes I really have to scrounge for something to write about as I'm pretty much living "Same stuff, different day" but there are things that happen once in a while. Maybe I should become a bit more philosophical or look a bit closer at ordinary things? I don't know which way to turn - maybe a bit of both. I also need to get my camera into action again as posts without pictures seem boring ... unless you are a writer of excellence! And I know I'm not ... LOL, so I know pictures have to enter the scene on this blog.
I'm sitting here on the computer - of course - waiting for UPS to arrive around 1:00 pm to deliver a wonderful, wonderful gift from my Daughter. I had mentioned I really wanted a tablet and gave an idea of what I wanted ... my Daughter and her husband started looking for what they thought would be good for me. The first thing that I had to clear up was that I needed the 10" screen as those tiny 7" screens just wouldn't do - old eyes - and my daughter agreed. Now they searched some more and I suggested some names and I got feedback about my suggestions ... I finally had to give them what I wanted in a tablet and step back. My son-in-law is a computer expert and my daughter not far behind, so they definitely know a LOT more than I do. They came up with one and now I'm awaiting the delivery. My daughter, thinking again, also bought a keyboard to go with the tablet - Bless her!
I'm also waiting for Spring to spring! It get up into the 40's & 50's during the day, but at night it gets down into the sub-freezing, as in 18 - 22 degrees. The temp is bouncing around in the lower to mid 20's ... Brrrrrrr. I'm waiting for the daytime temps to get a bit higher so I can get the truck & camper moved closer to the house - we have a camping trip coming up the first weekend in May ... I like to work on the camper in a leisurely fashion - that way I don't forget things that need to be done.
My chicken girls are getting better at laying, but they really can lay more if the weather would warm up!! They love to scratch around in the 'wild' section of my yard, and boy do they ever. They dig a hole to take a dust bath in and sometimes the hole is deep enough that I can't see them except for the clouds of dirt and dust that flies up ... LOL
I WILL let everyone know about the tablet after I've played around on it a bit ... I'm sooo excited. See you all soon.

A pair, a pair, a pair ...
... of socks!! I finally finished my first pair of socks. They are not perfect, but I consider them my sampler socks. They are a little bit too loose - OK. There are three different types of increases - OK. There are holes at the heel - OK. I don't think I'll go on with more little things I've found, but I sure have learned a lot! Never mind the hiked up sweats... it was just to show you that they were knee socks.
Two of them! I didn't really have the "Second Sock Syndrome", but I did knit a couple of smaller things while knitting the second sock. The looseness at the top is because I totally forgot about the 1x1 or 2x2 rib to help them stay up. I think I could go back and re-do that part, but then again, maybe not. LOL
Here is a scarf in garter stitch with a bit of a fringe that I knitted during the second sock. Very simple, just CO 20 and knit to your hearts content until you come close to running out of yarn. I took the tail end and cut as many fringes as I thought I would need and then knit until the yarn ran out. I think the yarn was Vanna's Choice Tweed, and the needles a 7 or 8.
I, of course, had to knit a bunny with Easter coming up. The pattern was "Bunny Nuggets" from Danger Crafts, and it came out sooo cute. Only about 4 inches to the top of the ear, and a big fuzzy tail. The ears are not quite the same length, but that makes him cuter!! Simple I-cord. The eyes are light blue beads, and the nose is embroidered pink yarn.
I'm working on a shoulder wrap for my Mom, but I'm not far enough along to bother taking a picture as it looks like lots of stitches (233 at the moment) on a circular needle. I want to finish it by her birthday at the end of August, so she will have it going into winter. My Mom will be 84 and has trouble staying warm during the Danish winters, so I though I'd knit her something useful.
I will probably cast on for another pair of socks in the same type of yarn, but I will try a different toe that is more rounded. I am still experimenting with different methods of doing things, but I figure socks are a good way to practice some of these methods. Only I will know...

Oooh, I'm healthy!!!
Last Wednesday, I had my 'clean out' day ... no food, only clear liquids and some of that cleaning stuff that keeps you close to the bathroom ... the colonoscopy went so well, and I was sooo clean that the doctor wanted to do the surgery the next day (Friday) so I didn't have to go through this again. Thank you doc!!!
They did a laproscopic appendectomy - try saying that three times fast!! - on Friday. It seems the troubles I've had over the last 18-24 months was really my appendix acting up, but not enough to put me in danger of having it burst. I think the doctor was saying that the growth I had came about to protect the appendix from further damage, but it did HURT BAD about 4-5 times during that period. Everything that was to be removed came out without a hitch. It was all sent in for a biopsy, but the doctor doesn't expect any surprises at all - he told me so.
I got home yesterday around 2-2:30 pm, and of course as I was taking it easy, I over did it. Every heard of something so silly?? ... me neither ... I slept until 10:30 am (after changing the clocks) and feel like most of my day has disappeared!
There are so many things I need do get done, but will only do the vital ones. Like baking bread, cleaning the dreaded cat box for tomorrows garbage day, and baking dog treats ... that one may just have to wait until tomorrow even if we are out! I will knit, I will knit, I will knit, or so I keep telling myself ...
I also need to do some laundry ... but I do have enough clothes to last for another week, but my favorite things are dirty (whine, whine & whine some more!)... I will wait, I will wait, I will wait!!
Thank you for all your well wishes over the past month, I really appreciate it a lot! I am fine and on the mend. Thank goodness this is all over, except paying the bills ...

Happy, happy Thanksgiving
We have a white Thanksgiving! The pictures were taken on November 23rd, the day of the storm, but aside from snow having been plowed and shoveled, it is basically the same amount as it has been way below freezing since.
I love this view out the front door, it never disappoints me.
You just have to have a view or three out the back door too. The south 40 (1 acre)...
... my poor barbecue under 12" of snow...
... a frozen wind spinner ...
... and the new chicken coop showing how the blowing snow stuck to the fence! I went out and hit the fence and it all came down in one fell swoop!
Silly I know, but I've been giving the chickens cooked rice that's still warm to hold them overnight when temps have been dropping into the minus and teens' range. I will freeze my chickens on my schedule, not Mother Nature's!
The sun is shining this morning, but the temperature will only go to 34 today. I hope everyone has a safe and satiating Thanksgiving. I am going to two houses for dinner ... I'm wearing pants with elastic in the waist!! ... and I'm bringing containers to bring home some leftovers too ... LOL

I am done ... ... ... ... almost
Well, I finally finished all the presents. There are only three left to wrap and that's it for this year! And all the beaded ornaments are wrapped and NO pictures taken. I was in such a hurry to get this done and over with that I totally forgot.
I took the hat to my friend Don, and he absolutely loved it. Double warmth for the head and quadruple warmth for the ears with the brim folded up! Can't get better than that if you HAVE to go out in the cold. I told Don that if he goes out in a snow storm that he'd better wear the red side out so we can find him in a snow bank - - - LOL
We had a bit of snow the other night, so we will have a white Christmas. Five inches is really not a white Christmas considering that we should have 2-3 feet! But white Christmas none-the-less!!
I have to make a batch of red cabbage for dinner; I will do that tomorrow so it has a chance to sort of 'steep'. It always tastes better the second day, so I now make it a day ahead.

busy ... busy ... busy ...
I have been busy, very busy! There always has to be the last minute stuff no matter how well thought out Christmas gifts are. Time just seems to get away from me, all of us I suppose, and then there is one week left, and now only four days!!!!!
Making my beaded ornament covers is a lot of fun, and since I'm in a time crunch now, things seem to go faster. There isn't the time to agonize over what colors, which beads and what size ornament. This picture shows how I figure out what will go into an ornament, try this, try that and make sure I have enough of the 'fancy' beads to finish an ornament. If not, then change a row, change a dangle, or save the idea for another time. I seem to work better when I can see the supplies laid out whether I use that particular item or not. And that piece of blue in the bottom right of the picture is my ratty old flannel shirt ... LOL
This shows the lineup of some of my ornaments, some simple, some very simple and some take a bit of thought. None of them are hard to make - you just need to count beads, and count beads, and count beads. Then where to stick the needle is the next quest ... I love doing this king of work and time seems to fly when I do.
Here is the hat that I showed in an earlier post. Very warm, very thick and two layered so you can have whatever side and color you want shown to the world. I took the hat to my friend and he couldn't believe how thick and snug it was. He will be taking it with him up north for Christmas since it is a lot colder there.

Did you know . . . ?
I just read an email that I put in a folder for safekeeping - - - and as I was cleaning out all my emails, I thought that I would try it just for sh*ts and giggles.
First, here is the email:
Thought you may be interested in this email I received especially if you use dryer sheets in the dryer!
"The heating unit went out in my dryer. The repairman went in to the dryer and pulled out the lint screen / filter. It was clean. We always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes.
He told us that he wanted to show us something.
He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. Now, this
thing is like a mesh-I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks
like - WELL......the hot water just laid on top of the mesh!!! It didn't go
through it at all!!! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that
mesh and that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but
it's there. He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long
time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and
wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least
every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as
long! How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday!
I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, thought I'd share!
Note: I went to dryer and tested my screen by running water on it.
The water collected a little but ran though the screen. I dried it off and
was ready to put it back in the dryer since the water ran through it but, I
thought was the heck it won't hurt to wash it while I had it out.
Warm soap water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. I then
ran the water over the screen and what a difference the water just gushed
through it with no puddling at all and this time I was running the water at
a faster rate. That repairman knew what he was talking about.
PLEASE, PASS THIS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. NOT ONLY COULD IT SAVE
SOMEONE'S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE (Don't leave that dryer
running when you leave the house. Ask any firefighter!)"
Now I tried this, and yes, the water bubbled up and rolled around on the screen! I washes it, dried it and tried again. YUP, the water went straight through the screen! I'm no expert about dryer fires, but I will continue to do this in the future. I have never left my washer or dryer running when I leave the house . . . I'm not particularly fond of the idea of coming home to a flood in my kitchen when the water lines to the washer blow, nor am I thrilled thinking about coming home to my house in ashes along with my 2 cats and dog.
I'm not into scaring any one, but this really works. Go ahead and try it just for fun . . . you might find it is not so funny after all.

Bits and pieces . . .
Here are the pictures I promised from the wedding - aren't they a wonderful looking couple?
. . . and this one shows the snow we had. This is in their front yard in town. We had more at my house which is a couple of hundred feet or so higher in elevation. All the pictures I took came out really fuzzy, I got dizzy enough just looking at them - didn't want to subject all of you to it!
Things have been slow here. I read blogs for a while, comment on some. I started a huge puzzle, put the bits & pieces I did get together, took it apart and put it away. I've looked through the Fire Mountain Gems catalog and wished for lots and lots of stuff.
My roommate got a new (to him) vehicle after the horrible roll over he had in the Saturn. 2002 Chevy S-10 with canopy and front tow hitch. It is nice, but as always when you buy a new rig, there was a bit of maintenance that needed to be done - it should be able to hit the Highway now when he's ready to move to Texas. Probably by the end of May . . . boy I will miss him!
I haven't done much crafting, but did pick up a few things when I went to our NEW Michael's!! I love that store!!! Now I just need to get busy.
I dug out a little treasure box that I painted several years ago, see I can really paint! LOL
The chain on the 'watch' goes down the side and around the bottom part of the box, you can just see the tassel behind the lid. The inside is gold. I made it for a giveaway, (that never happened), for the Christmas festival here in town. I think maybe I'll put it up on Etsy when I'm ready to open my shop. It is 1 3/4" tall, 2 1/4" in diameter and the inside depth is 1". Hmmm, I have more boxes I can paint, hmmm . . .

happy dance, happy dance . . .
We got SNOW!!! It's only about 6 inches total in the last 3-4 days, but it is sticking around! I love watching the snow fall. It doesn't matter if I'm inside or out. I usually go outside if the wind is NOT blowing, that wind chill just kills me, but sitting in the living room and watching is terrific too. We didn't get as much snow as Ravenhill up in Norway though!
My room mate has not made up his mind, nor has he looked real hard for another vehicle. He has been driving my truck, but that GMC is a gas hog, I was going to say that he can use it until he leaves, but depending on his move date, maybe not. We start camping in mid May and I will camp. He can then drive my Jeep, but with his height, 6'4", it is a tight fit even with the seat all the way back.
D, my room mate, picked up some deals on meat a couple of days ago. Tonight we had a cross rib roast. I had never heard of this kind of cut, but did the Google thing for a recipe. Found tons!!! Looked at half a dozen and just combined them with the ingredients I had on hand - came out yummy, yummy, yummy. Cooked it on the stove top, like a pot roast, but cooked it in beef broth and red cooking wine. OMG!!! The gravy was heavenly. The roast, fried potatoes, and corn. I'll do this again - I have another one in the freezer.
I've been watching the tornado damage in Oklahoma and the wild fires in Australia - WOW, my heart and prayers go out to every one affected. I cannot reasonably understand what would make anyone set fires during a heavy duty wind storm. Makes you wonder what trips these peoples buttons...
I wish for all of you health and happiness.

My room mate has not made up his mind, nor has he looked real hard for another vehicle. He has been driving my truck, but that GMC is a gas hog, I was going to say that he can use it until he leaves, but depending on his move date, maybe not. We start camping in mid May and I will camp. He can then drive my Jeep, but with his height, 6'4", it is a tight fit even with the seat all the way back.
D, my room mate, picked up some deals on meat a couple of days ago. Tonight we had a cross rib roast. I had never heard of this kind of cut, but did the Google thing for a recipe. Found tons!!! Looked at half a dozen and just combined them with the ingredients I had on hand - came out yummy, yummy, yummy. Cooked it on the stove top, like a pot roast, but cooked it in beef broth and red cooking wine. OMG!!! The gravy was heavenly. The roast, fried potatoes, and corn. I'll do this again - I have another one in the freezer.
I've been watching the tornado damage in Oklahoma and the wild fires in Australia - WOW, my heart and prayers go out to every one affected. I cannot reasonably understand what would make anyone set fires during a heavy duty wind storm. Makes you wonder what trips these peoples buttons...

Aha, rain today . . .
We got some rain - NOT snow - and it was dripping from every where. More places than I knew it could drip from! But thankfully not on the inside of the house. We are having a heat wave, yeah, a heat wave. About 34-39 for highs this week.
I went to the local store today and WOW, talk about slushy roads . . . phew! I have a 4X4 and I was all over our roads here in the neighborhood. Slick as snot is about all I can think of to compare it to. Not nice I know, but truthful! The slush is about 9-12 inches deep, and it moves your vehicle ALL over the road.
I had a wonderful Christmas, got some great presents; a 25' Stanley Tape Measure (all my other ones have disappeared), some of those stick to your sock foot warmer thingies (love them), and for my collection, some silver colored Reindeer (not Rudolphs).
I went to Dale's to help him move some snow, ha, ha, ha, SNOW . . . he had to clear his shop roof and the camp trailer. They had at least 2 feet of snow on them, and even though the shop would be OK, the trailer had to be cleared or it would start to sag in the middle - not good. He got it, no problem, but the walkways had to be cleared. A friend brought his snow blower up to help, but there is always corners that need a good shovel. I have experience in that department! I helped. It felt good that I could help him for a change.
I filled my wood box today too. Damn that thing is a huge cavernous beast when it's empty! Nice and friendly when full, but this afternoon it only had 8 pieces left - they seemed so little and tiny way down there in the bottom of the box. It now has so much that the lid won't close. I like it that way! The box measures 2 x 2 x 4 feet - doesn't seem that big UNTIL you have to fill it! It's more than full now!
I've been gathering turkey carcasses since Thanksgiving and am in charge of cooking New Years Eve dinner - every year, that's my thing! I need to hit the store for some carrots, broth and spaghetti noodles. The rest of the ingredients are in the cupboard. It has to make enough to feed about 12 - 14 people...... Hmmm . . . do I have a big enough pot??? No, but I'll start in the one I have and since I have trouble lifting those huge 16 qt pots, I will take two pots, combine the soup in Candy's one HUGE pot, and we will all eat merrily ever after!!! LOL
I will not be around for the Midnight Party - my dog freaks. I will take her home about 11:30 (if I last that long!) and sit with her. Here where we live there will be fireworks (not legal), and gun shots (definitely NOT legal), and the dog, all 60 lbs of her, will try to crawl up on my shoulders. Even though she is on medication, it is just too much for her. I will turn the stereo up, plug my ears, and hold the dog. Interesting picture to say the least, but I will do what it takes to keep the dog at least half way sane.

Very Merry Chritmas
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and peace and love.
I spoke with my Mom at 8:30 a.m., my time, 5:30 her time. She lives in Denmark and it is already Christmas Eve there. It is always nice to speak with her and I wish I could do it more than once a month. She is 81 and even though there isn't too much new going on in her life, I enjoy talking to her. We share lots of laughter and the time runs away from us, today we talked for 45 minutes, but that's OK.
I enjoy my Christmas Eve, but for me the BIG celebration takes place tomorrow. I've become Americanized over the last 50 years. I will still light candles tonight and enjoy the peace (and snow!).
Today I'm cooking and wrapping presents. My evening will be quiet, but I need that before the total fun and hoopla of tomorrow.
Again, wishing you Peace, Happiness and Love this Christmas Eve.

down to the wire
Well, Christmas is just about here, and I only have to wrap presents and make red cabbage for dinner. I won't make the cabbage until tomorrow afternoon.
I want it to sit and 'steep' in its juice overnight for a better flavor. It's a very simple recipe, the only thing you don't see sitting in the picture is a little bit of butter, some sugar, just a half teaspoon, and some salt & pepper.
I have made this for both Thanksgiving and Christmas every year for the last 10 years. Those are the only times that I make it, so it becomes a holiday treat.
The pot is probably 45 years old! Revere ware 5 1/2 qt. It was my Mom's before she moved back to Denmark. It is pretty pitted on the inside, but I don't have the heart to get rid of it, so I just scrub very, very, well with a stiff brush. I have never gotten sick from anything made in it. It is my stew pot, spaghetti pot, soup pot. I love the way it cooks and wonder if I could ever find any other pot to replace it with.
OK, enough of my cooking pot ramblings. I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Stay safe, and warm, and if you're traveling keep your sense of humor and patience close at hand.
